I have been collecting Macfadden materials since 1980 when I first discovered a well-worn copy of "Health - Beauty - Sexuality"
at a used book sale. Since that day I have amassed an extensive collection of Macfadden materials.
I have relied upon the following resources to gather the information that appears on this web site:
Weakness Is a Crime by Robert Ernst
Mr. America by Mark Adams
Body Love by William R. Hunt
Bernarr Macfadden: The Muscular Prophet (doctoral dissertation) by Clifford Waugh
A Study in Success by Clement Wood
Chats With the Macfadden Family by Grace Perkins
The True Story of Bernarr Macfadden by Fulton Oursler
Dumbbells and Carrot Strips by Mary Macfadden
Barefoot in Eden by Johnnie Lee Macfadden
I also have used Macfadden's books (I own just about all of them), ephemera, copies of Physical Culture Magazine, and numerous newpaper and magazine articles.
I have interviewed and/or corresponded with innumerable individuals including: researchers, authors, people who knew Macfadden, and members of his family.
